However, if the rash spreads up to your nose or eyes, in that case, it is said to periorificial dermatitis. In early cases, the red bumpy rash appears around the mouth area said to be mild perioral dermatitis and is the best time to get it treated. Once a clear fluid discharge starts, you might have to consult a lot of medications.
Perioral dermatitis is very common with women aged between 16 to 45 years and can be seen in all races, ages, and ethnicities. Episodes of perioral dermatitis can last from weeks to months depending on the type of medication being employed.
The causes of perioral dermatitis
The cause of perioral dermatitis is still unknown despite such high occurrences of it recorded every year. However, it is suggested that it mainly occurs due to the high use of topical steroids on the skin. Such steroids might be advised by doctors to treat any other disease as well. Not only this, but excessive use of nasal sprays containing corticosteroids can also cause perioral dermatitis.
The symptoms of perioral dermatitis
Perioral dermatitis usually appears as a rash consisting of red bumps around the mouth and surrounding areas including the nose. These mainly have a scaly appearance around the eyes, forehead and on the chin. These contain pus and other fluids and have a similar appearance as acne. Some people also experience burning, itching especially in cases when the rash worsens.
